The Sgian Dubh, meaning 'black/hidden knife', is part of traditional highland dress.
Its use was outlawed in Scotland from the 1500s but was un-enforceable at the time North of the Highland line. That is, until the battle at Culloden in 1746.
However, codes of Highland courtesy and etiquette would demand that when entering the home of a friend, any concealed weapons would be revealed. This is when the dagger was moved from an armpit pocket to the sock. Which is where it is worn today as part of the traditional outfit.

Urban Pirate aims to create 'wearable art', meaning we want designs that have meaning and a story behind them. We create our t-shirts from start to finish, from design to print.
We use eco-friendly water-based ink to hand screen print our t-shirts in our workshop in Scotland. This gives a soft hand where you virtually can't feel the print.
